Soul Groove Radio is a UK's fast-growing radio station that plays the best funk, disco, soul, R&B and blues. The station is dedicated to bringing its listeners the best soul and blues music. The team of presenters at Soul Groove Radio bring their unique styles and creativity to their shows, ensuring you have maximum fun.
Soul Groove Radio was established in 2009 by Lee Lessells. He started the radio station as his hobby while raising his son as a single parent. Originally, the station played funk & Disco and soul music from the 70s and 80s. The station played in the background for eight years with limited listeners. However, by 2018 they had gained a strong following, but the main challenge was they couldn't find presenters. Later, Ray Douglass stepped in as a presenter and funded the station, becoming a co-owner.
He then took control of the station's management, including the terms and conditions for other presenters. Lee's work included concentrating on the day-to-day running of Soul Groove Radio, such as scheduling shows. After some time, they introduced new music policies and marketing strategies, which contributed to the station's success. They hired Gary Makepeace as the station's management team leader. His role included helping with merchandising, marketing and recruitment of new presenters.
Later on, in 2020, Hazel Dunmow was hired to assist with the station's social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram pages. With all these changes, they registered the radio station with companies house, becoming a limited company in March 2021.
The radio station has a strict policy which ensures the music content hosted is from what the presenter chooses. The presenters have the option of choosing music from the 60s to date. Soul Groove Radio is the ideal classic and modern soul station. They present music from the following genres: Soul, Disco, Funk, Jazz Funk, Reggae, Northern Soul, Dance Classics, R&B, Soulful Garage, Motown and Glitterbox. When listening to the radio online, you can interact with the presenters during their shows. This is one of the new management's best strategies, ensuring active listening.
