Virgin Radio is a national Hot Adult Contemporary radio station based in the UK. The station started broadcasting on March 2016, and it’s owned by Wireless Group, a part of News Corp. Originally, the station was launched in 1933 and then rebranded as Absolute Radio in 2008. The current station was reincarnated in 2016 as Virgin Radio UK.
The station was launched on a Virgin Trains service on March 2016. During the launch, they broadcast to about 75% of the UK’s population via the Digital DAB. Currently, Virgin Radio broadcasts via internet radios and online via computers, smartphones and tablets. However, this option isn’t available to listeners outside of the UK. The station’s broadcasters are live from 04:00 to 01:00, mostly discussing contemporary adult issues. After that, they only play music back-to-back and pre-recorded announcements from different presenters.
One of the popular presenters on Virgin Radio is Chris Evans, who has been broadcasting on BBC Radio for 13 years. After joining this station, he launched a new breakfast show on January 2021, earning the station many followers.
